Essiac Tea - 4 Herb Blend.

Our Essiac Tea is brewed from the parts of four different plants. The roots of the Burdock and Rhubarb plant, the inner bark from the Slippery Elm tree and the leaves and flowers of Sheep Sorrell.

Burdock Root – (Arctium Lappa).

Taken internally, the root of the burdock plant promotes sweating and urination. There is considerable evidence in scientific literature that burdock root tea is a powerful anti-inflammatory remedy. Its numerous antioxidants, including vitamin A and selenium, protect the liver from toxic chemicals, allowing it to process the body's naturally occurring steroids. This is helpful in achieving hormonal balance. A mildly bitter herb, it stimulates the release of gastric juices and aids digestion. This combination of qualities explains its traditional use in reducing mucus, maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal tract, stimulating a healthy immune response, aiding weak digestion, as a diuretic for water retention and to sweat out toxins through the skin, treating endometriosis and also uterine fibroids. The tea can also be used as a wash to treat skin infections such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. The root's chromium content can help maintain normal blood sugar levels.

Burdock

Slippery Elm
Slippery Elm Inner Bark – (Ulmus Fulva).

The inner bark (or bast) of the Slippery Elm has many medicinal uses due to its abundant mucilage, a glutinous substance secreted by certain plants. The mucilage of the Slippery Elm bark has demulcent (soothing of the mucous membrane), emollient (soothing of the skin), expectorant (soothing of the lungs), and diuretic (sweating and urination) qualities. It is highly nutritious, containing vitamins A, B, C and K as well as calcium and magnesium. These properties also help to neutralize the acids that cause indigestion.

Sheep Sorrel – (Rumex Acetosa).

This common plant has been used as a salad food and for its medicinal properties for many centuries. It is used to cool the body, create sweating and detoxification through the skin. As a diuretic it is useful in maintaining healthy kidney and urinary functions. It is rich in vitamins and trace minerals including ascorbic acid, mineral oxides, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, silicon and rutin.

Sheep Sorrell
Rhubarb Indian Rhubarb Root – (Rheum Officinale).

Used traditionally in small amounts, this herb acts as a gentle laxative and helps purge the liver of toxic buildup and waste. It helps neutralize acids due to indigestion. Its malic acid content also carries oxygen to all parts of the body, aiding healing and promoting a positive balancing effect upon the whole digestive system.
