Barley Grass - What is it?

Barley grass powder is made from the dried young leaves of the barley plant. It is not a type of grass. In the early stages of its growth, the barley plant is closer to vegetables in composition than grains, hence the name ‘barley grass’.

As they grow the nutritional value of the young barley grass deteriorates rapidly.
It is in their young state, however, that barley grass contains the most nutrients. Organic green barley grass is considered to be a highly nutritious food in its own right; reportedly it is an excellent source of vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, folic acid and essential minerals. It also contains chlorophyll which is a vital element for general well-being.

Organic barley grass powder contains very dense levels of these nutrients and minerals that is concentrated and easy for our bodies to absorb.

Cereal grasses such as Green Barley have been found to be excellent sources of beta-carotene, vitamin K, folic acid, calcium, iron, protein and fibre, as well as good sources of vitamin C and many of the B vitamins, including B12. In addition, the cereal grasses have been shown by studies to contain unidentified factors, which provide a variety of health, growth and fertility benefits to humans and animals. These unidentified factors have potent benefits, despite them not being attributable to any known nutrient.

There are no known toxic effects from eating organic barley grass.
